Leaving for Las Vegas!

I'll be on my way to Las Vegas this afternoon and this will be my 5th time to visit the so-called "Sin City."  And I just know this will be my most memorable trip there!

My first marathon is just 2 sleeps away! Yes, I am ready!  I know I have this in the bag.  I trust my 5-month training and all your words of encouragement and support are right here.... *points to heart*

I was watching a rerun of "The Last Samurai" on TV a couple of days ago and Tom Cruise had a line that struck me,

"From the moment they (Samurai) wake, they devote themselves to the perfection of whatever they pursue. I have never seen such discipline."
Hmmm...maybe I should wear something like this to the marathon.  It's Vegas anyway...NOT!

This rings true for us runners, don't you think?  Without self-discipline, you will not be able to achieve your goals.  It is one of the master keys to succeed in life.  The others keys would be will power, hard work, persistence and faith in God.  Am I forgetting anything?

So much discipline is required during training and I am thankful that this is one of my very few (haha!) positive traits.  Plus, it also helps that I have a Type A personality! ;p

That being said, not finishing the marathon, letting the "wall" stop me, and saying, "I can't"...IS NOT AN OPTION!  I have trained all summer for this and I will die before I let it all go to waste!

Yeah, see any difference?  I have definitely toned down the negative self talk and I'm keeping it positive from here on end.

I remember how panicky I was some months ago.  It's the O.C. in me!  Because I know I CANNOT control everything involved in running a marathon and it will be my first so I do not know what to expect since it's really different for each individual.

Often times we make our fear of the unknown prevent us from doing something great, becoming someone great.  I have since learned that life does not come with an agenda.  And since then, my O.C. self has calmed down.

I'd like to end this post with a quote from Sara of Words to Run By (shared by Jen of See Jen Roe Run)...
"There will be days you don't think you can run a marathon. There will be a lifetime of knowing you have."
I choose the latter!

  10. Julie, thanks for sharing your Marathon Running kit picture. Love it. I think you should have a go with it on. Make sure you do some runs in it first to make sure everything is ok. What a kick ass quote too BTW. It gives the whole running agenda a purpose. SOmething to strive for. I would have probably stopped running if there were no races to test yourself and your capabilities. Best wishes, I know you will do just fine. You trained for 5 months, I only trained for a month and a half. lol. You got this in the bag already. Go Go GO

  11. HEY MISS JULIE! I am so excited for YOU!!!! I will be thinking of you this weekend and sending you good luck. You can do this - I can't wait to read your posts about how awesome it is!!

I'm glad you liked the quote - I think of it everytime I run as I am now training (again) for my first marathon. I admire your strength and determination and WHAT YOU SAID is a motivation for ME "Often times we make our fear of the unknown prevent us from doing something great, becoming someone great. I have since learned that life does not come with an agenda." And THAT is all you!!!

Best of luck (even though you don't really need it!!!!) ;)
