Leaving for Las Vegas!

I'll be on my way to Las Vegas this afternoon and this will be my 5th time to visit the so-called "Sin City."  And I just know this will be my most memorable trip there!

My first marathon is just 2 sleeps away! Yes, I am ready!  I know I have this in the bag.  I trust my 5-month training and all your words of encouragement and support are right here.... *points to heart*

I was watching a rerun of "The Last Samurai" on TV a couple of days ago and Tom Cruise had a line that struck me,

"From the moment they (Samurai) wake, they devote themselves to the perfection of whatever they pursue. I have never seen such discipline."
Hmmm...maybe I should wear something like this to the marathon.  It's Vegas anyway...NOT!

This rings true for us runners, don't you think?  Without self-discipline, you will not be able to achieve your goals.  It is one of the master keys to succeed in life.  The others keys would be will power, hard work, persistence and faith in God.  Am I forgetting anything?

So much discipline is required during training and I am thankful that this is one of my very few (haha!) positive traits.  Plus, it also helps that I have a Type A personality! ;p

That being said, not finishing the marathon, letting the "wall" stop me, and saying, "I can't"...IS NOT AN OPTION!  I have trained all summer for this and I will die before I let it all go to waste!

Yeah, see any difference?  I have definitely toned down the negative self talk and I'm keeping it positive from here on end.

I remember how panicky I was some months ago.  It's the O.C. in me!  Because I know I CANNOT control everything involved in running a marathon and it will be my first so I do not know what to expect since it's really different for each individual.

Often times we make our fear of the unknown prevent us from doing something great, becoming someone great.  I have since learned that life does not come with an agenda.  And since then, my O.C. self has calmed down.

I'd like to end this post with a quote from Sara of Words to Run By (shared by Jen of See Jen Roe Run)...
"There will be days you don't think you can run a marathon. There will be a lifetime of knowing you have."
I choose the latter!

  1. WOW!! Awesome post girl! You are an inspiration. I am so so excited for your race and especially the recap. You are going to do so well. Self-discipline is KEY to running, now I just have to find some discipline for sweets. GOOD LUCK!

  2. Good luck to you!! I can't wait to hear how it all goes!

  3. Yeah... congratulations!!! You are going to rock this marathon!! Enjoy the experience, the training is about to pay off big. Can't wait to read your race review. I have never to been Vegas, and this race is on my bucket list.

My favorite quote was sent to me today and I wish this for you!

~~May the road rise up to greet you, and the wind always be at your back.~~~

    Irish proverb

  4. All the best to you!
    you will be great!!!

  10. You are going to kill it.

    Good luck.

  11. Julie, thanks for sharing your Marathon Running kit picture. Love it. I think you should have a go with it on. Make sure you do some runs in it first to make sure everything is ok. What a kick ass quote too BTW. It gives the whole running agenda a purpose. SOmething to strive for. I would have probably stopped running if there were no races to test yourself and your capabilities. Best wishes, I know you will do just fine. You trained for 5 months, I only trained for a month and a half. lol. You got this in the bag already. Go Go GO

  12. HEY MISS JULIE! I am so excited for YOU!!!! I will be thinking of you this weekend and sending you good luck. You can do this - I can't wait to read your posts about how awesome it is!!

I'm glad you liked the quote - I think of it everytime I run as I am now training (again) for my first marathon. I admire your strength and determination and WHAT YOU SAID is a motivation for ME "Often times we make our fear of the unknown prevent us from doing something great, becoming someone great. I have since learned that life does not come with an agenda." And THAT is all you!!!

Best of luck (even though you don't really need it!!!!) ;)

  13. I am over the moon thrilled for you and am counting down the minutes of your victory post!! I so wish I was going to be there to cheer you on!!

I still love that quote, btw... thanks to sara for finding it and you for reminding me of it!

  14. Good luck! You are sooo ready!

  15. I will be thinking about how you're somewhere among the 30-some-odd-thousand runners when I'm lining up at the start in Vegas! You've totally got this! Yay! And if you happen to see little ol' me, make sure to say hi!

  16. I just sent you an email about Vegas. Let me know if you don't get it for some reason.

  17. We are going to rock our marathons this weekend... ROCK THEM!!! Seriously, I cannot wait!

  18. You've got this Julie!!! Have fun, run safe and strong!

  19. Just keep in mind, the race is like a long run, just better! You have tons of people who cheer you on, it's a great course and you get food/drinks during the run! You will do awesome!! Good Luck!!
