Packet Pick-up: 13.1 Los Angeles

13.1 Los Angeles 2011 Packet Pick-up
I asked Mike to just pick up the packet for me after his work since there wasn't any expo.  So no fun expo photos this time.  Sorry.

No goody or swag bag too.  Just a shirt and my race bib (the chip is attached behind the race bib).  Boo!  However, I am very happy that I finally got a shirt that is extra small!  All the other shirts I got were too big for me.  This one fits me perfectly.

It's about an hour drive to LA from our place so I have to wake up extra early.  AND...surprisingly, it's been hot here for the past few days.  It's like summer all over again!  In the middle of January?!  Waddup?  Let's see if my body still remembers how to run a half mary in the heat just like it used to in the Philippines.

Not sure if I'm going to race this one (though a PR would be nice) or... just treat it like a long run as part of my training for my second marathon in Feb.  I still have an extra 6 miles to run after to complete the required 19 miles on my training schedule.  I've never done that before.  Have you?   Jason says I should and just do the 6 mile easy run after. You think I should race this one?

Wish me luck!  Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

  1. Best wishes with the race. That color looks good on you, so you really scored with the shirt. Most of the races that I do have no expo, no swag, just a shirt (usually one I won't wear) and bib. I guess it's just a matter of size of race?

  2. Good luck tomorrow. It is weirdly hot, I hope it's tolerable for everyone. I'm glad I got my long run for the week in early this morning, it's too hot now. What's up with this? I don't have any advice on your distances, it's all way beyond my mileage at this point. Unfathomable to think I'd run a half and then 6 more after... :)) I'm so competitive, I say RACE!

  3. That Jason guy is fairly smart from what I can tell in regards to his blog so I would listen to him, but then again I am biased.....

Enjoy the run regardless of your choice and you will love it. I am so excited for you. Have a great time out there and don't forget to email, text, fb, twitter, blog me about the results.

  4. I did that a couple of times when I was training for a HM last spring. I ran a 5K and a 4-mile race and then ran some extra miles afterwards at my normal long-run pace. It worked out well!

  6. I was curious about the running one race while training for another. So would you run the 13.1, then go home and maybe even a few hours later do the other 6 miles?

Whatever decision you make, good luck and have fun tomorrow!

  8. Good luck! I ran the Atlanta 13.1 so I have the same shirt! WOOT! The expo here was nothing to brag about, either. In fact, it took up a small conference room in a hotel. I was really disappointed. I guess it will take them awhile to get sponsors and funding. At least I've heard this was just the 2nd or 3rd year in Atlanta.
Anyway, have fun! I should take a pic of me in my shirt and post it on my blog! =)
