Opinions Needed: Marathon #2

Call me crazy, but I'm "thinking" of doing marathon #2 this February 6 (Surf City Marathon).  This is exactly 2 months from marathon #1.

Although I may sound like an eager runner, my reasons for doing this are:

1.  Continue Training - I just rested for a week after marathon #1 and continued training the week after. That said, I just have to continue where I left of.

2.  Sprint Tri - I plan to start training this spring for my first sprint triathlon in the summer.  Hence, I just want to finish marathon #2 so I can concentrate on that, then marathon #3 at the end of 2011.

Please also note that, although I am aiming for a PR, I am not hoping for a big one.  A few minutes faster than marathon #1's finish time (5:19) will suffice.  Heck, I'll be happy with 5:15, really.

I created a poll for this just to see how many would agree or disagree.  Feel free to post further opinions in my comments section.  So far I have heard from Thad (Runner Dude) and Jason B.

I understand that many will have different opinions on this and I am all ears.  At the end of the day, I still get to decide, right?  I'd really like to hear your take on this.  And would appreciate it greatly.  Thank you! =)

  5. If you're feeling good, then I say GO FOR IT! Might as well utilize the high mileage base you've already built up without having to do it all over again later!

  7. I say go for it too - Your body is already in shape for running the distance and two months should (?) be enough time for your body to be close to recovery from the first effort - I would think.

  8. I say go for it! You've got most of the training down and you know that you can do the distance!

  10. Well...you're young enough that your body can probably recover fairly quickly and allow you to start training again. However, I would still tread cautiously. I think the body is most vulnerable to injury in the month or so post-marathon. Sorry to be the dissenting opinion!

  11. I'm tempted to vote no... because I had two friends that did their first marathon and then followed up by signing up for another that happened within a month or two of the first. Neither really saw improvement, one ended up injured with no running for awhile, and I don't think any felt like they had a truly good day. I think in retrospect, they both realized their body hadn't recovered.

But, as you know, *I* have no personal experience here, and I'm no expert. I know that everyone is different, and everyone recovers different, and if you feel good and back to normal, and continue to listen to your body, and really want to do it, I don't see why that can't be achievable, and who am I to say no (although I'm not totally comfortable voting yes, either).

  14. I would go for it for sure. Two months between marathons is more than long enough. That's my opinion. Enjoy your weekend!

  20. If your body says "Yes"! Then, go for it! That being said, I have only ever run one marathon, so what do I know, but you have all that fabulous mileage built up!! :)

Catching up on my fav blogs after being away! Can't wait to hear what you decide!!

  21. Trust me, your marathon status will make the tri seem easy because of your fitness level.
