To many, running in the morning helps jump start their day. I must agree. It really gets your adrenaline flowing, giving you much needed energy for the day. But I like running at night coz it helps me de-stress. Stress is ubiquitous as it is inevitable in our fast-paced lives. Especially when you're dealing with a very difficult situation, running can help boost your mood. And I believe that's how I got hooked on running. Because no matter how bad my day has been, I know when I run at night, I always end the day feeling much better. That being said, it also helps me sleep better. You can't put a price tag on a good night's sleep!
How about you? Are you a morning or evening runner? Or do you just run whenever you feel like it? Would love to hear your insights! Do post them in the comments section.
I run (mostly) in the morning. I'm usually up by 4:40am, in the oval by 5am till 6:30am. Research shows that doing your training in the morning allows runners to maintain it consistently unlike pm runners (probably because so many things could happen the entire day and missing evening run is more likely).
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, I'm a evening runner. But on weekends, I'm a morning runner :D
ReplyDeleteBut I feel like I'm more of an evening runner, for like you, it is my regimen for a good night sleep.
I like to run in the mornings coz it gets me ready and focused for the rest of the day! Unlike Sam, I try to run as soon as the sun is up, around 6am-8am, so that I get equal parts morning sun and cool morning fresh air! It helps get me in the habit of waking up early esp. during race day. The whole routine of getting your stuff ready the night before and sleeping early helps a lot.
ReplyDeleteim an evening runner too.
ReplyDeletei read somewhere that we burn stored fats and the calories you ate that day when you run at nights. On the other hand, we use our stored energy when we run in the morning.
i love night running! last night was great, i run 10pm with the blue full moon lighting my route! refreshing and ecstatic
ReplyDeleteevening runs for me too...but my coach wants me to do those runs in the morning. still in a struggle with myself! :P
ReplyDeleteI work from 1-10 pm so the only time I can run is only in the morning. I tried to run at night once, but the streets weren't well-lighted and there were dogs scattered around as well.
ReplyDeleteI run at night but I really prefer to run early morning. I perform better on morning runs :)
ReplyDeletehi julie! during the week, running after work is more convenient as mornings here are like a blur when you have to prepare your child for school. if i had my way, i would like to get my runs in during the wee hours to get them done and over with :) i do have that option during weekends which i take advantage of whenever possible. keep running strong!
ReplyDeletemain factor is time availability from work.
ReplyDeleteNew to your site here. I love the lay out. Now the question of when I prefer to run. I run simply when I find the time to do it. I make running a part of my life and I have a better one for it. Although since my wife and I plan to move to the PH to have a simpler life, I was advised to run when the sun is not around as much as possible to avoid sun exposure problems. I enjoyed this article. Take care and Keep Running and writing on it.
ReplyDeleteI'm an evening runner too - I find it's the perfect way to relax after a stressful day at work, and is much cooler especially in the summer. The fact I run along the seafront and get to see the sunset is just a bonus!
ReplyDeleteI like to run at lunchtime (during work) because it's a nice break to the day and I have my evenings free when I do so. My longer runs I save for the weekends. In that case, I run in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI run whenever I can depending on my available schedule. I work in a very dynamic shift...if im off at 2:30pm, I would run at 3PM. if 5pm, by 6pm. if 6:30am, by 7am. Yes, even after a graveyard shift.
ReplyDeleteRunning is a passion. It's also my meditation.
My body clock awakes early in the morning. I love running early in the morning the earliest time I got 4am when most are still in bed probably dreaming but me am already on the street sweating it out. Those were the moment where the only music you will hear is the heartbeat of your heart and the touch you will feel is the sweat flowing in your skin not to mention the cool breeze air that caress your face.An hour of non-stop running. I love it! I started to embrace the love of running since April 9, 2007. Glad to hear you found the passion in running too.
ReplyDeletemorning runs when I started, but due to work schedules, my runs have mostly switched to the evenings...
ReplyDeleteI have been running for almost 30 years.
ReplyDeleteIn the first 10 years i was a late afternoon / night runner but when i got married and had kids.
I had to switch my running time to the morning so i can spend time with the family in the afternoon / evening.
It took a little adjustment but when you love running you just have to adjust.
One thing i notice is i run faster in the pm compared to the am , this maybe because in the pm im not so stiff and more flexible.
Either way make running a way of life – regards patrick concepcion / runningshield
