Cross-Training

I've finally decided to go on a running hiatus until the end of this month or at least until the weather is cooler. For the life of me, I cannot run long distances in this hot and humid weather.

So for a week, I did nothing. And I got REALLY bored. My body was aching to move. So I decided to get busy with other forms of exercise.

Dancing - Every Tuesday, our dance company (Hotlegs) holds its weekly company classes to keep us in tip-top shape. We warm up for about an hour. This involves stretching, floor exercises, crunches, plies, etc. Then we do corners, which involves grooving, walks, twists and turns, extensions, jumps while moving across the dance floor. And for the last 15 minutes of the class, we learn a short dance routine. Check out our video from this week's class below.

Swimming
- This is my other love. The last time I did this was in Boracay early this month. My very first open water swim! So yesterday, I went to the Camp Aguinaldo Pool to do some laps. It was such a hot day yesterday. Temperature was a scorching 37 degrees! I jumped in the pool excitedly but was instantly disappointed. The water was warm. REALLY warm. So much for cooling off. Hot springs, anyone? Nonetheless, I was able to do 30 laps. I plan to build more swim mileage this summer.

My unique pink swim cap and pink goggles!
Still looking for a pink tri-suit ;p

Ultimate Disc
- This was my first sport ever, would you believe? I was never really sporty until I reached the age of 28! I fell in love with this sport instantly in 2002. The last time I played was in 2004. Last month, I started tossing and joining pick-up games. Even joined the summer league! I belong to The Breakfast Club Night Shift team. It was suppose to be just a "fun" team. A good mix of old players and newbies. But whaddya know...we made it all the way to the quarter finals! LOL! All the sprinting we do here is perfect speed training. At least I'm still running =)

In the near future (really near, I hope), I wish to add CYCLING to this list. All I need is a Bike. When I finally have one...Triathlon, here I come!!!

Which cross-training routines do you do?

HOT Hot Legs!

I never thought I'd say this but, I so want summer to be over! For the past few weeks I've been whining about the hot and humid weather. I only started running last November, so this is my first summer as a runner. And I am not liking it.

I can't run more than 5K because of this insane weather! I try, really I do. I hydrate, I tried running early morning and late at night, etc. But the heat is really my achilles heel. I used to regret not signing up for my first full marathon this May, but now I am happy I didn't coz I'm gonna have a difficult time training and running such a long distance in this heat.

After logging in a measly 2.25K last night, I've decided to go on a running hiatus until the end of the month (or at least 'til the weather is much cooler). I know true runners shouldn't have any excuses, but I still wanna live to run in the future. I am considered high risk heat exhaustion department. I've passed out before. Yes, i am human.

Bikram running, anyone? No thanks. =/

My Facebook Page

For the past few months, I've been receiving quite a number of invites on my personal Facebook account. Most of them were people I didn't know which I assume to be runners. I could tell coz of their profile pics (which were of themselves running). As much as I want to add them all, I have promised myself (when I opened my FB account) that I will only add my real friends and family members. Or at least those who I actually had a decent conversation with. It's a privacy issue thing which I trust everyone understands.

I didn't want to ignore all 50 invites (which have been sitting on my friend request page for quite a while) because I didn't want to come off as a snob to those who sent them.

So, my solution was to just create a page for the Hotlegs Runner on Facebook. Thank goodness they just call it PAGE now and not FAN PAGE. And you don't have to click the "Become a Fan" button. Now it's just "LIKE". I don't think I can bear the thought of having a "fan page" and having "fans". No offense to others who are worthy. But it's for me? Hilarious! Haha!

I promise to update my Page regularly. Logging in my training, sharing race pictures, link to my blog updates, etc. That said, I'd like to request for you (yes you reading this) to add me on Facebook by going to this link...
www.facebook.com/HotlegsRunner

..and clicking the LIKE button. And voilà! We're connected!

To date, 250 peeps have liked my page so far in less than a week. Woot! Thank you! =)
