30 Days of Thanks (Day 30)

I am thankful for the life I was born into.  Sure, the grass may be greener on the other side, but I will never know what they had to give up to be where they are now.  Could be their family, integrity, etc. I learned to stop wishing I had what other people have and work with what I've got.  And life became less complicated.  Nonetheless, I still feel really blessed!

------------------------------

And that wraps up my 30 Days of Thanks Project.  Whew!  Surely a lot of things to be thankful for. =)

  • Won anything at a giveaway lately?
  • What would you really like to win?

I Quit!

Last week was a week of celebrations...

My awesome god-mother's birthday, my dad's birthday, and Thanksgiving Day.  Today, I am also celebrating something --  my first year of being "SMOKE-FREE!"  Yey!

I am not a quitter.  But this is one thing I can proudly say I quit.  Ugh!  I dunno what I was thinking smoking those filthy cigarettes!  I am one of those reformed smokers who now loathe the smell of cigarettes.  And I can't believe it's already been a year since I lit my last cigarette.  For many years -- since high school -- I was literally huffing and puffing my health away!

Just before lighting up. Taken during one of our shows. Eek!

I'm glad I decided to stop and I have running to thank for that.  I started running on Nov. 1 and I decided to stop smoking on Nov. 29 --  right after the second race event I joined.  I was out of breath during that run and took a lot of frequent walk breaks.  I wanted to perform better, so I made the best health decision of my life by deciding to stop smoking -- COLD TURKEY!

I was so determined, I didn't even crave for it.  It was simple.  I replaced an existing addiction with another addiction (running) and I set goals.

1. perform better in my sport.
2. get healthy
3. live longer for my loved ones.

That was enough motivation for me.  The most awesome thing about it -- after making one healthy decision -- you make another one and another one, and another one.  A healthy lifestyle snowball effect! I decided to also limit my alcohol intake, eat healthy, sleep early, and exercise regularly.

Cigarettes ... Good riddance!  Hello long healthy life!

  • Did you ever have a bad vice before?
  • What made you stop?

----------------------------------------

30 Days of Thanks (Day 29)

I am thankful for my will-power and self-control for without this I will probably won't be the person I am today. It's easy to just give in to things or certain situations. I am thankful that I don't see temptation as a bad thing. Temptation is not only an opportunity to do good, but it's also an opportunity to grow in character.

Black Friday Race Recap (?)

I set a new shopping PR at yesterday's Back Friday "Marathon".

Time: 8 hours  Stores Visited: 3

Got a lot of good deals! Got a Dirt Devil Vacuum for just $28.  There was actually a smaller one for $9!  Also got a lot of winter clothes since I don't own much being that I just moved here from a tropical country.  Hooray for $8-$10 winter tops!

Black Friday WAS NOT bad at all.  I thought I'd get pushed or crushed in the crowd...but there was NO CROWD at all at Target, Best Buy and Pier 1.  Maybe it's because of our location. *shrugs*  I guess that's a good thing. =)

Anyway, back to REAL running (and not running around stores)...  I wasn't able to do my tempo run yesterday because I was too tired from Black Friday. Boo!  Bad runner!  I'll just do it today.  It's just 5K anyway.

So....it's 7 days until marathon day.  EEeeeeek!  Excitiiiiiing!

I had a lovely thanksgiving with my dad, step-mom, siblings and fur babies.  My dad did all the cooking (thank God!).  2 days after, I still feel like a stuffed turkey!

How was your thanksgiving?

-----------------------------------

30 days of Thanks (Day 27)

I am thankful for good customer service.  It is vital in every business.   I've had my fare share of bad ones!  Though I recall times that I received customer service that was extraordinary.   And it was greatly appreciated!

The Black Friday Marathon

This scheduled non-running related post is brought to you by Black Friday! But wait...it DOES involve running.  Running around the store,  that is!

I've decided to participate in my very first Black Friday.  I have chosen Target as my first race...er... store coz it's very near our place.   Then will probably run to Best Buy and some other stores after.  Some call it crazy, but I just simply call it "BARGAIN SHOPPING".

I trained hard for this...

I am wearing my pink Nike Zoom...

I have studied my route around the store...

I have carbo-loaded last night during our Thanksgiving dinner...

I know what to eat before the doors open...

Still thinking if I should wear my hydration belt since I know the small cafe there will be full. :p

Gun start is at 4am.

Wish me luck!

I'VE GOT THIS!!!!! =)

  • Are you going to any stores for Black Friday?

30 Days of Thanks (Day 26)

I am thankful for answered prayers because it shows how powerful prayers are and how faithful our God is.  I am also thankful for unanswered prayers because it teaches me to be patient and to continually walk by faith, trusting and relying on God's own timing in our life ...because unlike ours... God's timing is ALWAYS perfect!

    Gear Review and Giveaway: Yurbuds

I have always had an issue with the earphones of my iPod falling of whenever I run. It has thrown me off countless times and it was really A-NNO-YIIING!  I know I am not the only who's had this problem.  I think every runner who listens to music while running knows what I am talking about.

I am so relieved that this is no longer a problem for me.  Ever since Yurbuds sent me these babies...

Yurbuds are custom fit earphones that won't fall off...Guaranteed!

These Yurbuds stuck to my ear like glue through my long runs and speedwork.  To test it, I even tried doing a cartwheel and some pirouettes to see if it stays in place.  And it did!!! Amazing!  Would've been awesome if I had a video to prove it.  So instead, you can check out this lady...

    Now do you believe me?

You can check out their other videos online and you'll be surprised at all the other things people did to prove that they don't come off.  They tumbled, twirled around like a dervish and one girl even did the Irish dance.

Other things I love about Yurbuds:

    - It enhances sound quality.  They are much better than the apple earphones. Totally pimpin' my beats!
    - Soft and comfortable.  It is made out of medical grade silicone.
    - Sweat-proof.  Don't have to worry about sweat dousing my earphones.
    - Water-resistant.  I used them while it was raining and no damage whatsoever.
    - Personally sized.  Because every ear is different.  Just submit a photo and they will determine your size.  Easy peasy.
    - Not an iPhone or iPod user?  Yurbuds have earphones that are compatible to your mp3.

The Yurbuds is an insanely good product.  I learned that it was developed by a marathoner and a triathlete.  You cannot go wrong with that!

I've never used my original Apple earphones since I started using Yurbuds.  I've been switching it back and forth from my iPod and iPhone.  I am hooked.

I've got my iPod and tunes ready for my first full marathon in 9 days.  And I'm taking these Yurbuds with me all the way to the finish line.

Earbuds falling off!One less thing to worry about on marathon day! Thank you, Yurbuds!

30 Days of Thanks (Day 24)

I am thankful for my health.  I have always taken it for granted and it has never been more appreciated 'til now.   Good health is such a blessing. I am currently involved in several physical activities, geared towards accomplishing my  goals in my chosen sport and my family relies on me to cook and care for them.  That being said,  being in poor health is really not an option.

Post-it Notes Tuesday: News (Old & New)

'Tis the season to be really busy.  With Thanksgiving just 2 sleeps away, my marathon in 10 days and Christmas fast approaching, I suddenly found myself running around like a headless chicken. Busy, busy, busy!  I'm surprised I can even find time to post daily.  I have to, since I committed myself to doing 30 Days of Thanks.  Eeek!  What did I get myself into?

Sorry if I am unable to read and comment on some of your blogs as my days are full with household chores, schlepping shopping bags, running and cross-training.  So please allow me to update you using the ever so convenient post-it notes....

This one below is getting really old already. Ugh! ....

    So, What's new?....

    • Are you also busy preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas?
    • Which song makes you want to run faster?
    • How's the weather in your side of country?

    ------------------------------------

30 Days of Thanks (Day 23)

I am thankful for my Church and my small group. It really is an extension of my family. Without them I would be a lost soul in the world. When I walk through our church doors, I feel like I'm walking into a whole new world because God's presence is so strong there. I am also thankful for our Pastor. I have learned so much from him about God and the Bible. I am finding out what it means to be a Christian. I am learning, understanding and trying my best to apply what the Bible says in my life. I am still a work in progress, but I'm getting there with the help of my church family.

30 Days of Thanks (Day 21)

I am thankful for the INTERNET. There was a time when there was absolutely no way to communicate with anybody in another place or country without it costing a lot of money. Or gathering information without going through books and encyclopedias.  Now it's as easy as clicking a mouse!  Being away from home, the internet plays a huge role in keeping in touch with family and friends. I am also thankful for the people I met through it.  The internet is the medium that brought us together.  For good or bad, the internet is truly an essential part of our lives.  That being said, it should be used wisely.

    2 Weeks and Counting!

Today is exactly 2 weeks until my first full marathon. C-R-A-Z-Y!  So here's an update in the form of a self Q & A....

    Q: So how's the knee?
A: Feeling much better.  I think. *gulp*  Last Monday was my 15 mile run and I think it's a little funny that my knee only started to hurt during the last 500 meters. Geez. Just when I thought it was gonna be pain-free for this week's long run.  It's a big improvement though coz the week before, my knee started to hurt by mile 12.  Here's hoping it does not hurt AT ALL on marathon day.  Hoping this taper will help with the healing.

Q: Ahh...speaking of taper, how's that going for you?
A: I have come to realize that taper = weight gain.  Well, at least for me.  I've been wolfing down food for the past few days and I'm pissed that my body is craving for carbs.  With my mileage down and with my crazy appetite, a little weight gain is inevitable. The solution?  Must cross-train more!

Q: Have you figured out what to wear yet?
A: Yes I'll be wearing my CW-X Stabilyx tights, A Nike Top, 3 layers of pink tops (to be thrown away), my beanie with a hole for a ponytail and running gloves.

Q: Are you excited to run your first marathon?
A: Yes, very!  Though I must admit that I'm a tad scared.  I mean, who wouldn't be?!  But the plan is to tone down all the nervousness and negative thoughts and self talk come "The Day".  I don't need them, really.

Q: What are you scared of?
A: I'm basically scared of the unknown.  I'm scared of not making it in time for the 5:30 cut-off, scared of getting injured during the run and slowing down, and scared of ending up like these guys...

This was during the Conquer Corregidor Run in the Philippines last year.
    It was a tough course!

If found, please drag to the finish line.  LMAO! HAHAHA...Haha...hahaha...ha..ha...h...

    *crickets...crickets...crickets...*

*scratches head*... Um, did anyone ever tell you that you're crazy?
    - Yes, I hear that a lot. =)

Hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday!
    Big virtual HUG!

30 Days of Thanks (Day 20)
I am thankful for RED WINE.  I love being able to sit at night and drink a glass of good red wine and just chill out.  I also enjoy it in the company of friends. Good people paired with good red wine create more insightful and enjoyable conversations.  When matched creatively with a sumptuous dish, it tends to enhance the flavor of food, making it a lasting dining experience as well.  Good people + good food + good red wine = memorable evening!
